Sheffield United 2-3 Manchester United
Goals: McGoldrick (5th, 87th) for Sheffield // Rashford (26th, 51st) and Martial (33rd) for MU
Into the Wilder.
Traveling to Sheffield with a suspended Chris Wilder, Manchester United did the job on Thursday. The Red Devils enforced the hierarchy by dominating the red lantern (2-3), with a great Marcus Rashford. England forward was a long way from Old Trafford and that’s good news: he has scored all of his Premier League away goals this season. Five in total after his double at Bramall Lane. Author of the equalizer on a long ball from Victor Lindelöf (26th), Rashford also struck in the second period by concluding a backlash, well helped, of course, by the not firm enough hand of Aaron Ramsdale (51st).
The Frenchies also shone. Anthony Martial put an end to five months of famine in the league by scoring in the 33rd minute, on a pass from Paul Pogba. Not to be outdone, the former Juve offered a sleight of hand of which he has the secret by getting out of the opposing pressing, roulette as a bonus, at the start of the counter concluded by Rashford, himself served by … Martial. The Blades remain in the red lantern position with only one point on the clock after this match.
David McGoldrick, however, struggled throughout the meeting and saw his efforts rewarded with a double. The Irishman first made the good start of his family following a ball from Dean Henderson, trapped by the pressing from Burke (5th), before reducing the score with a header from a corner (87th). Too late, despite the last opportunity for Lys Mousset, on which Henderson this time had the right gesture (90 + 2nd). The Red Devils are now sixth, and Liverpool is five points behind the leader, with a game late.
Next opponent for MU: Leeds. Roll on Sunday.
