FIFA announced on Tuesday in a long press release that it had filed a complaint against its former president, Sepp Blatter, as well as against its management at the time for “presumption of criminal mismanagement” in connection with the launch of its museum in Zurich opened in 2016, after an internal investigation. The world body said it had found evidence of the involvement of the Swiss and other people in questionable activities in connection with this famous museum.
The 500 million Swiss francs (around 460 million euros) which represent the total cost of the museum “could and should have been devoted to the development of football” according to FIFA, which has since invested nearly 140 million Swiss francs for renovation of the building, and which will have to pay rent until 2045 amounting to 332 million euros in total. “Considering the immense costs associated with this museum, as well as the general model of a forensic audit is performed to find out what really happened in the previous FIFA administration. This audit uncovered a wide range of suspicious circumstances and management deficiencies, some of which could be of a criminal nature and therefore need to be thoroughly investigated by the competent authorities.“ the statement said…
